HazCheckin now supports Catalonia: guest registration with the Mossos d'Esquadra

Until today, if your property was in Catalonia, HazCheckin wasn’t for you. The reason is a legal peculiarity: Catalan accommodations don’t report the guest report (parte de viajeros) to SES.HOSPEDAJES like the rest of Spain — they report to the Mossos d’Esquadra through their own portal, MossosHotels. And that portal has no API: it only accepts manual uploads of files in a strict official format.

That’s over. HazCheckin now supports guest registration with the Mossos d’Esquadra. Properties in Barcelona, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona can activate, offer the same online check-in as the rest of Spain and receive the official file ready to upload to the portal. No SES credentials, no transcribing data by hand, no fighting the file format.

Why Catalonia is different

Public safety powers in Catalonia are devolved to the Generalitat, and traveller registration is one of them. When the Ministry of the Interior launched SES.HOSPEDAJES under Royal Decree 933/2021, the Direcció General de la Policia established that Catalan accommodations must keep reporting through the Mossos platforms.

The obligation is the same — report every traveller’s data within 24 hours of arrival and keep the register for 3 years — but the channel is completely different: instead of a web service with an immediate response, a plain-text file with a very demanding official format (pipe-separated fields, closed code lists for document, sex, payment and family relationship, ISO-8859-1 encoding, uppercase values, and a sequentially numbered file name that admits no duplicates).

One malformed field and the portal rejects the whole file. Building it by hand, booking by booking, is slow and fragile. That’s exactly the work we’ve automated.

How it works

1. We onboard your property without SES. When you create it, we detect from the postal code that it’s in Catalonia. We don’t ask for SES.HOSPEDAJES credentials: just your police code (the identifier assigned when you registered on MossosHotels) and, if you were already sending files yourself, the number your counter is on.

2. Your guests’ check-in doesn’t change. Each guest gets their link and fills in, from their phone, everything the Mossos card requires: document scanned with the camera, support number, birth date, address, contact details, minors’ family relationship and digital signature. For them, the experience is identical to any other HazCheckin property.

3. We generate the official file automatically. As soon as the last guest completes check-in, we build the file in the official Mossos format: correct sequential numbering, every field validated (if something is missing we tell you exactly what, instead of letting the portal reject the upload), Spanish-peninsula timestamps and an encoding the portal accepts first time.

4. We email it to you, ready to upload. You receive an email with the official file name, a secure download link and the exact steps to upload it. You can also download it any time from the reservation detail in your dashboard.

5. You do the only manual step: upload it. Log in to MossosHotels, go to Traveller information submission → Bulk files, select the file and keep the receipt. Under a minute. Let’s be clear about this: HazCheckin does not send the report to the Mossos — the portal doesn’t allow it for any software. We leave everything done, and the final submission is yours.

On top of that, the documentary register is kept for the 3 years the regulation requires, with each guest’s verified identity and signature.

What if I have properties inside and outside Catalonia?

You don’t have to do anything special. Each property uses its channel automatically based on its postal code: the Catalan ones generate the Mossos file and the rest send the report to SES.HOSPEDAJES with no action on your side. One dashboard, two channels, zero manual decisions.

When will it be 100% automatic in Catalonia too?

As soon as the Generalitat allows it. Today MossosHotels offers no online channel for third-party software; if one day it does, we’ll integrate it so submission becomes as automatic as it already is with SES.HOSPEDAJES.
